Melaka govt plans to set up country’s first environmental museum, says state exco man

MELAKA: Malaysia's first Environmental Museum is being proposed by the state government, says Datuk Rais Yasin.

The Melaka housing, local government, and disaster management committee chairman said the objective of setting up the museum is to create a focal point for education and awareness regarding recycling practices.

"I am optimistic about the proposal and hope the Federal Government would bring it to fruition with a concept similar to the museum in Japan," he said after the Melaka Green Awards 2024 at Courtyard by Marriott Hotel here on Friday (Sept 27) night.

The event was also attended by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

Four categories of awards are Green Culture, Green Project, Green Innovation and Green Community Programme with a total of 50 entries from 30 government, private and community agencies around Melaka.

Rais said the establishment of the museum will raise awareness and play a significant role in educating the public about the importance of environmental sustainability.

“We look forward to a positive response from the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister on this proposal.

“The proposal is still in the early stage before we escalate it for realisation by relevant stakeholders," he added.
