GISB probe: Remand extended for seven in human trafficking probe

KUALA LUMPUR: Seven individuals detained in connection with the ongoing investigation involving Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) have had their remand extended for five days, says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

The Inspector-General of Police said the suspects were detained under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) Act 2007.

"Their remand has been extended for five days from Sept 27 until Oct 1," he said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 26).

The IGP said the police also received 10 police reports over forced labour involving GISB employees.

"We urge GISB members and followers to come forward and lodge police reports to assist the police in conducting a comprehensive investigation into the organisation.

"We are concerned for their well-being as the GISB structure has collapsed and members have no place to turn to or places to live.

"We urge them to come forward so that proper aid can be given, especially to the children," he said.

More than 300 individuals have been detained in the investigation after 20 care homes linked to GISB were raided since Sept 11.

Police also rescued 572 children in the operation codenamed Ops Global.
