Mahkota polls: Annuar Musa ‘endorses’ Onn Hafiz, Johor Umno

KLUANG: PAS’ Tan Sri Annuar Musa has given Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Johor Umno his stamp of approval.

The PAS deputy election chief said credit should be given where it is deserved and Onn Hafiz has done a good job leading the state.

“Johor, in more ways than one, is better than other states and Johor Umno is also better than the party in other states.

“Johor is unlike other states, there is no disputing that,” he said during the Perikatan Nasional ceramah in Kampung Melayu 2 here on Monday (Sept 23) night, which was held in conjunction with the Mahkota by-election.

However, Annuar, a former Umno secretary-general, noted that Johor’s performance should not be the only thing assessed by voters when casting their ballot in the Sept 28 Mahkota polls.

He added that the by-election, although to elect an assemblyman, was not really “just about Johor”.

“It is actually for the rakyat to assess the political performance at the national level.

The Mahkota by-election is a straight contest between Barisan Nasional candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah and Perikatan Nasional’s Mohamad Haizan Jaafar.

The Mahkota state seat fell vacant following the death of its incumbent, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, on Aug 2.

The Mahkota state constituency, located within the Kluang parliamentary constituency, has a total of 66,318 voters, with 20 polling centres set to open this Saturday (Sept 28).
