‘Mat rempit’ group taken to the mosque by KL traffic cops

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 32 "mat rempit" was taken to the mosque for Subuh prayers and a "tazkirah" (talks on Islamic matters) following a traffic operation on Sunday (Sept 22).

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said all the individuals, aged between 15 and 25, were brought together for Subuh prayers as well as other good practices.

"After the documentation process was done at Tun HS Lee police station, they were given a motivational talk, attended Subuh prayers and a tazkirah at KL JSPT's An Nazahah mosque," he said in a statement on Sunday.

He hoped the religious and educational activities would motivate them to change their ways.

"We also hope they could leave the mat rempit life behind," he said.

ACP Mohd Zamzuri said a total of 157 summonses were issued for various traffic offences including not having a licence, no number plates and illegally modifying motorcycles.

"We urge parents to be more aware of their children's activities.

"We also hope parents can be there for their children if they are facing any problems so that they are not inclined to join activities that are against the law," he added.
