Esscom reveals its new logo

KOTA KINABALU: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) has revealed the new colours for its logo and jurisdiction map as part of its second phase of rebranding.

Esscom Commander Datuk Deputy Commissioner Victor Sanjos unveiled the new blue and white colours, which was previously maroon.

It also changed the colour of the ESS Zone map during the Esscom monthly assembly at the marine police base hall in Lahad Datu on Monday (Sept 23).

DCP Victor said the changes were part of the re-branding exercise to restore public confidence in the security of Sabah's east coast.

While launching the new logo, he said that Esscom would stand firmly to ensure no intrusion and kidnappings occur in its area of command.

"Our mission is to ensure that EssZone is a safe place for people to prosper," he said.

Esscom, an integrated defence arrangement involving multiple agencies, was set up in 2013 after gunmen linked to the self-claimed Sulu Sultanate intruded in Kg Tanduo in Lahad Datu.

Esscom is tasked to secure Sabah's east coast borders against intrusion and kidnappings, among other criminal activities.

"The re-branding of Esscom and EssZone is important to restore the public's confidence in the security with the aim of developing the socio-economy on the east coast of Sabah," he said.

DCP Victor said more tourists were coming to the east coast since the curfew was replaced with the movement control order (MCO) in October 2023, adding that the term "MCO" was not as alarming to foreigners as "curfew".

Meanwhile, Esscom chief executive officer Datuk Dr Jamaluddin Mohd Ali said the socio-economic program had helped to bring change to the lives of the people in the EssZone area.

"Under the programme, participants can increase their income with various skills training including preparing food from sea products to making pastries, among others.

"More people have applied for the programme but we will have to see if they are eligible," he said during an Esscom with the Armed Forces in Lahad Datu.
