No complaints received by MCMC on GISB marketing activities online, says Fahmi

PUTRAJAYA: PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has not received any complaints regarding the marketing activities of Global Ikhwan Service and Business Holding (GISB) on social media platforms.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said that the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry was the authority responsible for addressing issues related to marketing on social media.

“Typically, if the ministry identifies a need to remove any content, particularly in terms of copyright and consumer protection, they can, under Section 263 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, request internet service providers to take down the content.

“However, up to this point, I have not received any complaints via MCMC on this matter," he told the media after the Communications Ministry’s monthly assembly here on Friday (Sept 20).

Fahmi was responding to questions on whether there was a need to take down GISB’s promotional materials circulating on social media, following an ongoing investigation by the police.

On Sept 11, the police launched "Ops Global", rescuing 402 children from 20 shelters linked to the company in Selangor and Negri Sembilan.

The operation was conducted to assist in investigations into allegations that the company was involved in the exploitation of children and religion.
