Elderly man killed by falling tree at Kuantan campsite

KUANTAN: An elderly man has been killed and two others injured when a tree fell on them during a camping trip at Kem Nemo, Kampung Balok here.

The victim, identified as 68-year-old Che Zakaria Che Ali from Kemaman, Terengganu, was declared dead at the scene on Tuesday (Sept 17).

A woman and a child were injured and rushed to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) by the public.

Kuantan Civil Defence Force Zahidi Zainudin officer said six personnel and an officer were dispatched following a distress call received at 3.36 pm.

"The storm caused a tree to fall on the campsite, resulting in injuries and one fatality. Three people were affected: the deceased elderly man, and an injured woman and child who were taken to the hospital by the public," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Emergency treatment was administered to the victims and the fallen tree has since been cleared.
