Mahkota polls: Nomination process went smoothly, says Johor top cop

KLUANG: The nomination process for the Mahkota by-election went smoothly in a controlled environment, says Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar.

He added that there were no untoward incidents that were reported either before, during and after the nomination process.

“Throughout the two-week campaign which begins on Saturday (Feb 14), police have placed a total of 772 officers and personnel in locations throughout Kluang.

“This is to ensure public order and safety throughout the by-election period,” he said at a press conference on Saturday (Feb 14).

Comm Kumar added the police are well prepared for any possibility that might occur during the by-election period, including natural disasters.

He said the police have 38 personnel to control the situation if flash floods occur within the Mahkota constituency.

“So far there is no political hotspot within Mahkota. However, we are ready if flooding hits locations around Mahkota.

“We have prepared a contingency plan. Our lorries are on standby at the Kluang police district headquarters,” added.

Comm Kumar also said that so far police have yet to received any ceramah applications from political parties contesting in this by-election but would make the process easier for them.

He reminded political parties - including its leaders and members - to not touch upon the 3Rs (religion, royalty and race) during the campaign period.
