Native land to be returned to locals in Tambisan, Lahad Datu, says Anwar

KOTA KINABALU: Some 400ha native land under the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) will be returned to the locals in Tambisan, Lahad Datu.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced this during his visit to Felda Sahabat Lahad Datu, Thursday (Sept 12).

He said this has been a long-standing issue which needed to be immediately solved.

He said this matter was brought up by the state government and the Yang di-Pertuan Negri, so he has to respond and make a decision.

“So alright, I agree to return this land,” said Anwar, adding that numerous governments have changed and now this return is made possible by the Madani government.

On other matters, he said a dialysis centre is expected to be built at Felda Sahabat so that residents there do not have to travel far to Lahad Datu town to seek treatment.

Earlier, he reiterated that the Madani government was committed to fighting corruption and power abuse in the country, stressing that those who flout the law should be punished legally.

Anwar said the Madani government respected the laws of the country and would not compromise on any wrongdoing.

He said under this government, civil servants saw their first salary increment in 12 years and he wants accountability from everyone in the public sector.

He said there would not be any compromise between those who ‘steal from the people’ and those who took what was not theirs.
