Municipal council's approval needed for business, entertainment, or competition events in Perlis

KANGAR: Any programme or activity with business, entertainment, or competition elements within areas under the Kangar Perlis Municipal Council’s (MPKPs) jurisdiction must receive prior approval from the local authority.

According to a circular dated July 25, 2024, issued by the local authority, the state government, MPKPs, and the Islamic religious authority in Perlis have set policies and guidelines regarding the organisation of such activities as well as competition prizes.

"Entertainment-related activities or events are subject to the Perlis State Entertainment Enactment 1987, and prior approval from the MPKPs is required,” it said.

The circular also states that organisers must adhere to the entertainment performance guidelines set by the Perlis State Fatwa, including regulating performers’ clothing and actions, as well as managing the audience, such as segregating men and women, if necessary.

It said that for competitions that offer prizes, organisers must ensure compliance with the Perlis State Fatwa guidelines to prevent any element of betting or gambling.

The circular also includes attachments related to the Perlis State Fatwa, which covers the Guidelines for Entertainment Performances in the State of Perlis (concerts, acts, dances, etc.) and the Fatwa on Competitions and Competition Prizes, as well as the permit application procedure for organising such activities in areas within MPKPs’ jurisdiction. – Bernama
