16-year-old mentally challenged girl raped by social network ‘friend’ in Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR: A mentally challenged woman was raped by a person she met on a social networking application.

Ampang Jaya deputy OCPD Supt Nazruel Ekram Abu Saare, in a statement today, said that the 16-year-old victim was raped at her home in Taman Saga after meeting the suspect on Aug 17.

Following a report lodged by the victim’s mother, a 24-year-old man was arrested at his house in Subang.

The mother had noticed something was wrong after noticing a CCTV camera in the house had been disconnected. It was later found that it was disconnected to allow the suspect into the home.

Investigations into the incident led to the suspect’s arrest at a house in Subang.

It was found that both the suspect and the victim had met each other on the social media smartphone application “Litmatch”.

“The suspect was then remanded until Aug 26 and we will apply to extend the remand period,” Supt Nazruel said.
