Area around Masjid India safe despite sinkhole incident, says cop

KUALA LUMPUR: The area around Jalan Masjid India is still deemed safe despite Friday's sinkhole incident.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Sulizme Affendy Sulaiman said the area around Jalan Masjid India is still safe to be visited.

"So far it is safe and Kuala Lumpur City Hall is also analysing the soil structure in the area further," he told reporters at the scene on Saturday (Aug 24).

On Friday, 48-year-old Vijayalaksmi from South India fell into a sinkhole after a section of the sidewalk at Jalan Masjid India caved in.

The incident at about 8.25am led to rescuers being deployed to the scene.

However, after more than 24 hours, the Search and Rescue (SAR) operation is still ongoing and the victim has not been found.
