Putrajaya to come up with new plans to improve sports, says PM

KUALA LUMPUR: As the Paris 2024 Olympics concludes for Malaysia, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government is coming up with new plans to improve the national sports performance.

The Prime Minister also congratulated Malaysian athletes for competing at the Olympics in Paris, France.

“I want to congratulate those in the Olympics and those who tried their best. We must accept this result.

“We hope that in future, we will finish several new plans to improve the national sports performance,” said Anwar after officiating the Malaysia Commercialisation Year (MCY) 2024 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on Aug 12).

Malaysia managed to win two bronze medals at the Olympics in Paris, France.

Meanwhile, Anwar said that national economic recovery is on track despite several unforeseen global factors such as the Japanese earthquake, the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict and among others.

“We are on track but we should be mindful of the geopolitical and also international impact, which we will assess from time to time,” said Anwar briefly.

Last Friday (Aug 9), a magnitude 5.3 earthquake hit Tokyo, Japan and an emergency warning of a strong tremor was issued by the Japanese government.
