Mahkota rep Sharifah Azizah passes away

KLUANG: Mahkota assemblyman Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain (pic) has passed away on Friday (Aug 2), three days after she was hospitalised.

Sharifah Azizah, who is also Kluang Wanita Umno chief, was admitted to hospital after suffering breathing difficulties on Tuesday.

It is learnt that Sharifah Azizah's family members were by her side when she passed.

The 64-year-old two-term assemblywoman had been on breathing support since her admission.

Johor Umno information chief Datuk Md Jais Sarday, when contacted, expressed his condolences to her family.

He said he had known Sharifah Azizah for 40 years.

"We have lost a long-serving Umno member. We may have had our differences but we are still a family in Umno," said Jais.

He added that even though Sharifah Azizah had not been well for some time, she did her best to serve her constituents in Kluang.

"Her father is the late Datuk Syed Zain Al Shahab, a former Johor speaker," he said, adding that she had been the division's Wanita Umno chief since 1993.

Sharifah Azizah won the Mahkota state seat during the Johor state election in 2022.

Before that, she was the Penawar assemblyman from 2018 to 2022.
