Cop arrested for murder

Taken away: The suspect was remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation.

IPOH: A police lance corporal has been arrested in connection with the murder of Nur Farah Kartini Abdullah, who was found dead in Felda Gedangsa, Hulu Selangor.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said the 26-year-old suspect, the victim’s boyfriend, is a policeman stationed in Slim River.

“He is being held and investigated by the Selangor police,” Comm Azizi said.

The suspect, who was questioned by Muallim police, was also reported to have led investigators to the crime scene.

Comm Azizi said this after he and the outgoing state police chief, Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, handed over duties at the state police officers’ mess hall yesterday.

Nur Farah, 25, a rental car company employee based in Tanjung Malim, Perak, was reported missing after delivering a vehicle to a customer last Wednesday.

The victim, originally from Sarawak and a former student of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (Upsi), was last seen wearing a blue corporate blouse, a headscarf and a pair of black pants.

A missing persons report was lodged by her housemate last Thursday at 1.56am.

The victim was later found dead on Monday.

The police in Hulu Selangor obtained a court order yesterday to remand the suspect for seven days until July 22.

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman’s Federal Management director, Comm Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim, witnessed the handover.

Before his promotion, Comm Azizi had also served as the Perak deputy police chief from Nov 8, 2021.

He had also previously served as the principal assistant director of the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department at Bukit Aman.

Comm Mohd Yusri was promoted to director of federal traffic investigation and enforcement.

Senior Assistant Comm Zulkafli Sariaat of Bukit Aman’s Organisation Management Modernisation, IGP Secretariat (R&D), will be made deputy Perak police chief with the rank of acting Deputy Commissioner.
