Missing handicapped man found dead near Kinabatangan power substation

KOTA KINABALU: A handicapped man, who was reported missing since July 13, was found dead on Monday after it was believed that he might have fallen at a power substation in Sabah’s Kinabatangan district.

The body of the 31-year-old victim was found by members of the public about 350 meters from his house at about 10.52am, Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station chief Nurul Azlan Shah Jamalludin said.

The man was confirmed to be dead at scene.

"We believe the victim died as a result of falling from the power substation.

“The body has been handed over to the police for further action, “ he said in a statement on Monday (July 15).

The victim was reported missing on Saturday (July 13) when he left his house to go to his grandmother's shop in Kampung Lot M in Kinabatangan.

Firemen launched a search and rescue on the same day after they were alerted of the incident.

In an unrelated search and rescue operation, firemen continue the search for Harfy Aminudin, 35, who fell off his boat while fishing in Pantai Dalit waters off Kampung Terayung Muara Dalit in Tuaran since Sunday (July 14).

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations centre officer Riki Mohan Singh Ramday said the SAR operation continued but they faced difficulties due to strong winds and rough seas.

They had to suspend operations at 5.30pm (July 15) due to rough sea conditions and are expected to resume search operations on Tuesday (July 16).

Harfy fell from a boat while fishing in the sea with his friend in Kampung Terayung Muara Dalit.
