Two men rescued after boat capsizes near Pulau Jerjak

GEORGE TOWN: Two men were rescued after their boat capsized near Pulau Jerejak on Friday (July 12).

According to a marine police source, a volunteer firefighter crew from Sungai Kluang saved the victims, aged 39 and 52.

"We received a distress call at about 12.30pm informing us about the incident," the source said.

He said initial investigations found that the private boat capsized after the vessel's engine caught fire while it was out at sea.

He said a patrol boat was deployed to monitor the process of tugging the vessel to Batu Maung jetty.

The source added that both victims were safe.
