Tour bus overturns in Kluang, driver and guide unhurt

KLUANG: A male tour bus driver and a male tour guide escaped unhurt after their tour bus turned on its side while driving along Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said police were notified about a road incident at KM72 on Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing at around 8.30am on Sunday (June 30).

"At the time of the incident, there were no passengers inside the tour bus. Only the 60-year-old bus driver and the 60-year-old tour guide, from Bandar Baru Seri Petaling in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya in Selangor respectively, were inside the vehicle.

"Initial investigation found that the incident happened when the bus, heading from Mersing to Kuala Lumpur, was driving through Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing," he said on Sunday.

ACP Bahrin added that when the bus was negotiating a right bend, the driver claimed that another vehicle passed him from the right side.

The bus driver then tried to avoid the vehicle by swerving to the left, causing him to lose control of the tour bus, which resulted in the vehicle falling on its side on the road's right shoulder.

"The right side of the tour bus sustained damage while the driver and tour guide did not suffer any injuries. The weather was good during the incident.

"Checks on the vehicle found it still had valid road tax, and the driver had a valid driving licence," he said, adding that police issued a RM300 summon against the driver for driving recklessly.
