Pulai MP seeks solution for Tampoi apartment water issues

JOHOR BARU: The Pulai Parliamentary Office will send an appeal to the Local Government Development Ministry and the Johor State Government to address water supply issues at the Lily and Jasmine Apartments in Taman Tampoi Indah.

Pulai MP Suhaizan Kayat said there are two main issues at the apartment: the RM1.4mil worth of unpaid water bills to Ranhill SAJ and the burst underground pipes, which cost RM2mil to repair.

"The water supply to the apartment was cut off by Ranhill SAJ on June 28 after the management failed to pay the accumulated water bills.

"It was temporarily reconnected after our office intervened and the residents pooled their resources to pay RM30,000 to the company.

"This issue started during the pandemic. The apartment was already dealing with unpaid water bills, and the situation worsened after the old underground pipes suffered extensive leakage," he said.

Suhaizan spoke to reporters after the Excellent SPM 2024 Student Adoption Ceremony at SMK Bandar Uda Utama on Sunday (June 30).

He added that the first time the water supply was cut off was in March last year. The apartment's JMB then paid RM30,000 to temporarily reconnect the supply.

"So this is the second water supply cut. Back then, their arrears had already reached RM1.1mil; now it is RM1.4mil.

"I will bring this matter to the attention of the Local Government Development Ministry, and I will also meet with the state government to find a solution for the residents of the apartment," he said, adding that the apartment has 480 units with over 2,000 residents.
