Technician claims trial to trafficking guns, ammo and nearly 80kg of drugs


GEORGE TOWN: A 38-year-old man has been charged with trafficking drugs and six pistols with five clips of ammunition at an apartment in Batu Uban, Gelugor.

Technician A. Prakash claimed trial to all the charges in two separate courts here on Friday (June 7).

He was charged in the Sessions Court with trafficking the guns and ammunition under Section 7(1) of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, and whipping of no fewer than six strokes, upon conviction.

Prakash, represented by Y. Yogeswaran, was denied bail.

The court fixed July 11 for mention.

In a Magistrate's Court, he was charged with trafficking a total of 79.95kg of amphetamine and heroin at the same apartment on the same day and time.

He claimed trial to the offence under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which also carries a discretionary death sentence upon conviction.

The court fixed case mention on Aug 26 pending the chemist's report.

Bail was also denied on this charge.
