Mountain guide faints then dies after summiting Gunung Hitam


KUALA LUMPUR: A mountain guide has died after falling unconscious while on Gunung Hitam in Hulu Langat.

In a statement, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (Operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar said the department received word of the incident at around 11.48am on Saturday (June 1).

According to the distress call, the 57-year-old victim fainted after reaching the summit of Gunung Hitam.

"Medics reached the scene at 4.30pm and performed emergency treatment. The guide was still breathing at the time but was unconscious. At around 5.50pm, medical officers confirmed that the victim had passed away," he said.

The guide has been identified as Norfazli Abd Aziz.

"The deceased was guiding a group, was a veteran member of the Malim Gunung Perhutanan (MGP), and frequently assisted the Fire and Rescue Department in operations," added Ahmad Mukhlis.
