Programme to protect kids to be implemented in 300 schools

GEORGE TOWN: A child protection advocacy programme will be implemented in 300 schools nationwide this year, says the Women, Family, and Community Development Minister.

Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the KASIH Kanak-Kanak programme, which mobilises the community to protect and create a safe environment for children, has currently been implemented in 30% of the targeted schools.

“Launched last year, the KASIH Kanak-Kanak Programme has been rolled out in Kuala Lumpur, Sabah, Kelantan, Selangor, and Sarawak. This year, we are expanding to Melaka, Negri Sembilan, and Kuala Lumpur, and continue in other states by year-end.

“Our goal is to reach 300 schools this year, to educate children about their rights, particularly on how to report cases of abuse or neglect. They can directly contact 15999 to make a complaint,” she said.

Nancy added that the programme also aims to prevent child abuse and neglect, and the ministry relies on the support of other government agencies, teachers, as well as the local community to ensure its success, Bernama reported.

She elaborated that the ministry consistently prioritises the welfare, safety, and well-being of its target groups, particularly children, through various advocacy programmes and support services.

Consequently, the KASIH Kanak-Kanak programme serves as a platform for local communities, especially teachers, Parent-Teacher Associations, and local community members, to assist the ministry in preventing the rise in child abuse cases.
