BENTONG: The Magistrate’s Court here fined a man and three women RM500 each, in default of three days’ jail, after the four pleaded guilty to cooking instant noodles at a petrol station in Genting Highlands.

The accused were identified as trader Fadhli Zil Ikram Sazalin Isran Ji, 24, customer service officer Nurfatin Irdina Shahrulnizam, 24, dental assistant Nur Anis Salleh, 24, and property agent Nur Azira Azman, 23.

They were jointly charged under Section 336 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same law, for endangering the lives or personal safety of others by cooking using a gas stove at the petrol station.

The offence was committed at a petrol station in Taman Cendawan, Genting Highlands, here at 1.30am on May 12.

Before meting out the sentence, Magistrate Nadhratun Naiem Zainan questioned them on their actions, Bernama reported.

“What gave you the idea of cooking at a petrol station and then uploading a video on social media?” she asked.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Zamharir Muhammad Zuhid, in seeking the court to impose the maximum fine, said such a sentence could serve as a lesson for the four accused as the offence was a serious one.

During mitigation, Fadhli Zil Ikram, Nurfatin Irdina, Nur Anis and Nur Azira, all unrepresented, said it was their first offence and admitted their oversight.

It was reported that a group of youth had provoked anger online by uploading a video of themselves cooking at a petrol station in Genting Highlands.

The video had since gone viral on TikTok and other social media platforms.

The individuals were seen in the video using two portable stoves to cook instant noodles and other food, with their cars parked at the station.
