All in the family: Couple and son among seven nabbed in PJ, KL drug busts


SHAH ALAM: Police have seized over half a million ringgit worth of syabu and ganja and crippled two drug syndicates in Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur.

One arrest involved a family, while suspects in the second case rammed police vehicles with their truck in an escape attempt, Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan told reporters.

He added that a total of seven suspects were arrested following raids in Petaling Jaya and Pantai Dalam, Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday and Thursday (May 15 and 16) respectively.

"A team from the Selangor Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) arrested two men and a woman at 3.10pm on Wednesday at a parking lot in Petaling Jaya and seized 10 packages containing 10.03kg of syabu.

"The three suspects are a married couple and their son," he said here on Monday (May 20).

He said nearly an hour later, police arrested a man near the same area and found a packet containing 1.03kg of syabu in his car.

"The suspects are all aged between 21 and 44. Two of them have criminal and drug offences on their records.

"We seized a total of 11.41kg of syabu worth RM364,800 which was believed to have originated from the Golden Triangle," he said, adding that the syndicate planned to sell the drugs within the Klang Valley.

Comm Hussein said in the second case, police caught two men at around 2.30am on Thursday near Sungai Way, Petaling Jaya.

"When we tried to arrest them, they rammed our vehicles and we were forced to fire two shots to disable their pickup truck.

"We seized 22.05kg of ganja placed on the back seat of the vehicle," he said.

Comm Hussein said a third suspect in the case was arrested at 10pm on Thursday in Pantai Dalam.

He said the suspect led police to a nearby apartment where they found 21.8kg of ganja hidden in a box and a barrel in the hall.

"The three suspects are aged between 23 and 30. Two of them have records for criminal and drug offences.

"We have remanded the suspects for seven days," he said, adding that in total, police seized 43.85kg of ganja worth RM135,966 meant for local consumption.
