Shared grief for residents as homes washed away

BUKIT GANTANG: Alias Awang was left reeling when his rented home in Kampung Jelutong was swept away in a flood.

Being on a business trip during the incident at around 2.30am on Thursday, he returned to find only the roof intact.

“There are no words to describe how I feel,” said Alias, 56, whose house is located along the main road from Jalan Kuala Kangsar to Taiping.

“I was informed about the incident by my brothers, sisters and villagers about the rising river water level but I could not return for various reasons,” he told Bernama.

His losses, including furniture, electronics and cash, amounted to an estimated RM80,000.

Syaidatul Roraniza Abdul Aziz, 35, another resident, shared his grief as her house was also washed away.

Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal pledged aid, promising to rebuild Alias’s home and support affected families.
