Labuan MP: I’ve been sacked, no point replying

Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman.

PETALING JAYA: Labuan MP Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman says he does not see any reason to reply to the letter issued by Bersatu, since he is no longer a Bersatu member.

“No, I won’t respond because I don’t need to since I have been sacked. Why should I even do that? I’m not a member so there’s no point in replying to the letter.

“My membership was revoked. I didn’t leave the party. All we wanted was allocations from the government for our constituencies. We never switched parties. We were only supporting the government of the day. How is this wrong?” he said when contacted yesterday.

As such, Suhaili said he would continue to support the government of the day and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

To date, six Bersatu MPs have declared their support for Anwar.

The other five MPs are Tanjung Karang MP Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi, Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang) and Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang).

Selat Klang assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari of Bersatu had also declared his support for the leadership of Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Kidney alert! From warning signs to winning strategies

Following their declaration of support for the government, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the “rogue MPs” have automatically lost their party membership and must vacate their seats.

On Friday, Hamzah said 31 MPs and 60 assemblymen of Bersatu have been given 14 days to reply to a letter seeking a pledge of their loyalty to the party or risk losing their membership.

He said the rebels were given additional “instructions” in their letters, which were different from the letters that other Bersatu MPs and assemblymen received.
