A ROGUE male elephant was caught in Kampung Kemubu, Dabong in Kuala Krai on Monday, reported Sinar Harian.

Kelantan Wildlife Department (Perhilitan) director Mohamad Hafid Rohani said the capture would also prevent further damage to crops and belongings of the residents in the villages.

“The operation to move and release the wild elephant to a safer habitat will be conducted soon,” he told reporters.

“It will involve the Kuala Gandah National Elephant Conservation Centre staff in Lanchang, Pahang and Kelantan Perhilitan,” he added.

Mohamad Hafid said the relocation of the wild elephant is a short-term solution considering the area is close to the Serasa and Ulu Temiang forest reserve which currently has more than 20 elephants.

“The residents are advised to always take precautions and do not take unnecessary actions that can risk their lives.”

He also advised farmers to take mitigation measures such as installing blue LED lights on identified routes, regularly cleaning the farms, and constructing an electric elephant fencing.
