Groom emotional after butterfly believed to be deceased granny lands on his coat

PETALING JAYA: A groom in China was seen bawling the moment a white butterfly landed on his coat as he believed it was his recently departed grandmother, signalling her "presence” at his wedding.

In a video shared by the South China Morning Post, the man dressed in a suit for his nuptials was giving his speech when he broke out in tears as a white butterfly landed on his coat.

The man, known as Wang, said his grandmother had died earlier this year.

"I messaged her a few days ago saying if you want to attend my wedding show up as a butterfly," he said.

The video then shows the exact moment the white butterfly lands on his coat as his bride looks on, wiping away her tears.

According to the post, Wang was said to be extremely close to his grandmother as she raised him.

He said if his grandmother were still alive, she would have wanted to hug him and "listen to his heartbeat".

"Her regret before passing was that she would not be able to attend my wedding," said Wang.

The post has gone viral with netizens sharing their own stories of deceased family members “turning up" to attend special occasions. Others wrote that they were happy his grandmother managed to "show up" for his wedding.

Social media user Michele Passaro-Sipiczky commented that Wang's grandmother wanted him to know she would not miss the happiest day of his life.

"She knew he needed to know she was there," she said.
