Kids influenced by porn due to easy access, says Bukit Aman CID chief

PETALING JAYA: Boys as young as five years old are exposed to and influenced by pornography due to easy access online, says Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.

The Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director was referring to a case where a nine-year-old girl was gang raped by two boys aged nine and 10 in Kelantan.

He said investigations revealed that the girl had lost her classmate's eraser.

"She had no money to pay so she agreed to be raped by both boys as a means to repay (the debt)," he said at the International Regulatory Conference 2024 about tackling online harm here on Monday (May 6).

He added that no case was filed as both boys were aged 10 and below and not criminally liable under the Penal Code.

"The number of rape cases involving underage kids is increasing every year.

"That is only for cases reported; it might be the tip of the iceberg, " he said, adding that the rise was recorded after the pandemic with more children online.

He said 1that platform providers and regulators have a big responsibility (to restrict such material), adding that police are concerned over the easy accessibility to porn and child sexual abuse material.

"Children want to explore and they will follow (what they see online)," he said.
