Sabah's RM100mil scheduled waste treatment facility up and running at Sogip

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s first scheduled waste treatment facility is now operational at the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (Sogip).

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the RM100mil facility complements the state government’s environmental sustainability efforts and is a big step towards technology transfer, enhancing waste management systems and supporting the upcoming oil and gas projects under Sabah's Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitments over the next three years.

"With this facility being available here... (there are) cost-saving benefits for clients and current market players by eliminating the need to transport scheduled waste outside of Sabah for treatment," he said here on Monday (April 29).

He added that environmental conservation and sustainable development are key foundational pillars of the state’s Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya blueprint.

The facility, a joint venture between Tex Evolusi Waste Management Sdn Bhd and Evolusi Bersatu, was launched here on Monday (April 29).

“This facility will advocate sustainable development practices across industries and will see the treatment of a greater volume of new chemical waste, minimise land impact, and reduce pollution.

"Through the promotion of environmentally sustainable practices, we are laying the foundation for a greener and more resilient future.

"I wish to see Tex Evolusi set new standards and best practices for all to emulate," he said in his speech delivered by state Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe.

In addition, the facility would also create job opportunities for skilled and semi-skilled workers from Sabah.

The Chief Minister said Tex Evolusi aimed to have a 70% Sabahan workforce within the first two years, increasing to 99% by the fifth year.

"This aligns with the aspiration of our development blueprint to create employment and nurture sustainable growth and prosperity for all Sabahans," he said.
