MCA and Fujian govt to boost trade, education

PETALING JAYA: MCA and the Fujian provincial government in China will work towards bringing businesses from both sides together for mutually-beneficial cooperation, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said at the same time, the Fujian provincial government is also encouraging exchanges between the educational institutions founded by MCA and universities in the province.

On Wednesday, Dr Wee led an MCA delegation to meet Fujian Communist Party of China secretary Zhou Zuyi and other top Fujian officials for an hour-long bilateral meeting.

“In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, I led a 30-member delegation of MCA’s China Affairs and the Belt and Road Initiative Committee to Fujian, China, for a week-long visit,” said Dr Wee in a statement yesterday.

He said both MCA and the Fujian provincial government agreed to promote friendly bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and China in the areas of trade and education.

“We shared information and our experiences in economy, trade, education, humanities and tourism, and reached a consensus to jointly promote and deepen our cooperation.

“His Excellency Zhou Zuyi hopes that MCA can be the bridge between enterprises in Fujian province and Malaysia to have more collaborations, and at the same time, encourage cooperation and exchanges between the educational institutions founded by MCA and universities in Fujian.

“The purpose is to explore the opportunities for political, economic, cultural and educational cooperation and to enhance Malaysia’s existing cooperative relationship,” Dr Wee said.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic relations, he said MCA had also invited Zhou to visit Malaysia to promote mutual understanding and cooperation.

Following the dialogue, the Fujian provincial government proceeded to host a reception for the MCA delegation at the Fuzhou Yuehua Hotel.
