Homegrown hero mourned ­by Felcra settlers too

MUAR: One of the ten crewmembers involved in the Perak naval helicopter crash was from Bukit Kepong here.

Bukit Kepong assemblyman Dr Sahruddin Jamal said Cdr Muhamad Amir Mohamad came from a Felcra settlement in his constituency.

“He was the commanding officer of Squadron 502 based in Lumut.

“He was an anak jati (local born) Bukit Kepong.

“We are saddened by the incident,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday, where he also expressed his condolence to all the victims’ families.

Felcra Bukit Kepong said its settlers were mourning the loss of Cdr Muhamad Amir, who was a second-generation settler.

It added that he would be buried at the Felcra burial grounds after the postmortem and documentation process were completed.

Cdr Muhamad Amir died in the crash between two navy helicopters in Lumut, Perak, yesterday.

The two helicopters had set out earlier from the Setiawan field at 9.03am and crashed during rehearsal for the 90th Naval Day celebration.
