Four escooters handed over to cops patrolling KLIA

SEPANG: Four escooters have been handed over to the police to enhance security measures at both terminals at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport here.

Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said two escooters would be deployed at Terminal 1 while the other two would be used at Terminal 2.

"Both terminals attract at least 250,000 people daily with 251 flights landing here.

"We are aware that a shocking incident occurred here recently but the Selangor state had actually started the ball rolling on these e-scooters even before Ramadan," he told reporters on Wednesday.

He said the state government paid over RM55,000 for the four e-scooters.

"If there are requests in future for more units at the two airports we will consider and try our best to fulfil it.

"This is not the first initiative between us and the police. During the movement control order we spent over RM2mil to acquire e-bikes for the General Operations Force to be used in Op Benteng to patrol our borders," he said.

Amirudin said some of the requirements they looked into when acquiring the e-scooters included ensuring that they could be used for at least 12 hours at any given time on a full charge.

"I believe these scooters have a maximum speed of over 30kmh and will allow the police to swiftly respond to incidents at both terminals," he said.
