GEORGE TOWN: It was sombre at Commander Muhammad Firdaus Ramli's family home in Pantai Jerejak here on Tuesday (April 23) afternoon.

Family members were still struggling to accept the tragic loss of the crew member who perished with nine others in a helicopter crash at the Lumut Royal Malaysian Naval base hours earlier.

While most were too distraught to talk to the press waiting in front of the family's two-storey terrace house, one family member who requested anonymity said Muhammad Firdaus's parents had already left for Lumut to make arrangements to bring him home.

All 10 crew members, including Muhammad Firdaus, were killed when two Navy helicopters collided in mid-air during a rehearsal training.
