Road in Farlim partially closed for Air Itam bypass project

GEORGE TOWN: A section of road in Farlim, Air Itam, here would be closed from 9pm to 5am on Monday and Tuesday (April 22 and 23) to make way for construction of the Package Two bypass connecting Air Itam to the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway.

According to a statement on the project's official social media, the closure would involve the section along Lebuhraya Thean Teik between Desa Intan and Tanjung Court.

Among alternative routes motorists may take include using Lengkok Angsana to Jalan Angsana to resume at Lebuhraya Thean Teik, if they are travelling from the direction of Batu Lanchang to Paya Terubong.

However, those travelling from Paya Terubong to Batu Lanchang are urged to consider using Jalan Thean Teik to Lintang Thean Teik and exit at Lebuhraya Thean Teik.

Due to the ongoing works, the public is advised to observe caution and follow road safety signs as well as barriers, cones and beacons.

As of March, it was reported that the bypass project had reached 50% completion.

With land acquisition matters resolved, the project is on schedule for completion next year.

It is among four packages under the three major road and tunnel projects awarded to Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd in September 2013.

Once completed, the bypass is expected to reduce travel time and benefit Penangites in the long term, especially the 300,000 people living in Air Itam, Bandar Baru Air Itam and Paya Terubong.
