Cops beef up KLIA security with GOF personnel


PETALING JAYA: Security at the KL International Airport 1 and 2 has been enhanced with double the number of policemen on duty.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said General Operations Force personnel have been deployed to both terminals following the recent shooting incident at KLIA 1.

Photos of armed GOF personnel have also gone viral on social media.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, said that patrols had been increased at both airports.

"There are additional general duty policemen (in blue uniforms), at the buildings. It is now double what was deployed before.

"Full-gear GOF policemen are also on patrol at entry points and outside the buildings.

"In the near future, we will use e-scooters for patrols," he said.

On Sunday (April 14) morning, 38-year-old Hafizul Harawi shot at his wife in an attempt to kill her at the KLIA 1 arrival hall.

The intended target, travel agency owner Farah Md Isa, better known as Farah Cie, was waiting at the arrival hall for her clients to return from umrah.

The suspect set off some firecrackers before opening fire at the victim at close range.

Her bodyguard managed to save her but was shot in the stomach. Hafizul then escaped to his car, parked at Block C of the airport car park.

Police arrested the suspect, 38-year-old Hafizul Harawi, after a two-day manhunt in Kota Baru at 3pm on Monday (April 15).
