Overjoyed Malaysians congratulate squash star Sivasangari on London Classic victory

PETALING JAYA: Congratulations, Sivasangari!

This very wish was practically everywhere as Malaysians were in a euphoric united patriotic mood after squash player S. Sivasangari scripted the finest moment of her professional squash career by winning the London Classic.

The most notable wish came from Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who took the opportunity to congratulate the World No 13.

"She is the first Malaysian to reach the finals of the gold standard tournament in the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour, a feat last accomplished by Datuk Nicol David in 2015.

"Congratulations, once again. I hope this win will lead to more success in the future," Anwar said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Meanwhile, on The Star's social media platforms, Instagram user Jaswant Bhatt congratulated Sivasangari saying that she is "on course to be the new World No 1 Squash Queen".

On Facebook, Sunshine Thehungrylion said if Sivasangari has all the right potential to be the first Malaysian to bring home an Olympic gold medal.

"If she maintains her performance with the right coaching team and staff she could be the first gold Olympian for Malaysia and the first female squash Olympian in the 2028 LA Olympics," he said.

Simon Kwok proudly calls her the "world beater" as luck wasn't the sole factor in her triumph when she marvellously defeated the World No 1, 2 and 4 squash players, back to back, in the same tournament.

Fauzan Fauzi said with the awe-inspiring achievement, it is safe to say that she is currently "Malaysia's No 1" squash player.

While congratulations continues to pour there are also a few, including Peter Lim, who cautioned Sivasangari to keep her head in the game

"Stay humble, continue your hard work. Wishing you even greater success in the future," Lim said.
