Squash wins big in SEA junior meet

Erwin Christopher won the boys' Under-15 title at the Southeast Asian Junior squash Championships in Bangkok.

PETALING JAYA: Heavyweights Malaysia flexed their muscles by winning five of the 10 titles on offer at the South-east Asian Junior squash championships in Bangkok over the weekend.

Erwin Christopher led the way when he clinched the boys’ Under-17 title beating Nabil Iman Sharizan Azrol 3-11, 11-6, 11-8, 3-11, 11-8 in an all-Malaysia final.

The boys’ Under-15 final was also an All-Malaysian affair where Haiqal Hashim Syarudin overcame Faiz Darwisy 11-4, 11-4, 11-2 in just 14 minutes.

The boys’ Under-13 final saw Ong Hung Yu beating his Malaysian compatriot Vidhuran Ruthran 11-4, 11-7, 11-4 to secure the title.

Sharhan Saiful won the boys’ Under-11 title while Ooi Wen Min was Malaysia’s sole winner in the girls' category where she secured the Under-15 crown.
