Graft busters hold senior cop for bribery

PETALING JAYA: A senior police officer attached to the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) here for alleged bribery.

The police officer took bribes in order to not take action against certain illegal activities.

City police said they would wait for investigations to conclude before taking further action.

Sources revealed that the MACC also seized over RM1mil in cash from several properties said to be linked to the officer.

Messages have since spread on the Telegram messaging application that investigators have seized more than RM2.5mil in cash from a safe house at a luxury condominium in Kuala Lumpur.

The message also claimed that property worth more than RM4mil had been found.

When contacted, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the arrest, adding that his personnel are investigating the case.

“We have obtained a three-day remand order on the suspect to facilitate further investigations,” he said.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid, when contacted, said he is aware of the arrest of one of his officers.

“We will wait for the MACC to conclude its investigations into the allegations, and we will take it from there,” he said.
