Man and 3-year-old daughter killed, five badly hurt in Keningau accident

KOTA KINABALU: A man and his three-year-old daughter died in an accident in Sabah's interior Keningau district early Sunday (March 24).

Five other members of his family, including his wife and four children, sustained serious injuries when their car crashed into a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle at KM16 on the Keningau-Apin-Apin road.

Masino Gelong, 45, who was driving, was killed along with his daughter Claeryina Mecthildis.

Masiono's wife Chelrina Philip, 33, and their four children – Mattheo Charbel, two, Mica Chelsino, seven, Charlene Myra, nine, Camellia Mae, 11 – sustained serious injuries and are in critical condition at the Keningau district hospital.

Keningau OCPD Supt Yampil Anak Garai said three other people, including the 40-year-old driver of the 4WD, also sustained injuries and were sent to the hospital for treatment.

"One of the drivers lost control of his vehicle and strayed into the opposite lane," he said, adding that investigations were still in progress.

Firemen were called in to rescue those trapped inside the mangled wreckage.
