KUALA LUMPUR: Up to one million vehicles ply the roads daily and road users are urged to be patient and courteous to avoid any untoward incidents during the fasting month.
"Be patient with one another and do not drive recklessly," said Bukit Aman traffic investigation and enforcement department director Comm Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri.
"During this month, we observe between 850,000 and one million vehicles on the roads in Kuala Lumpur for work and Hari Raya shopping," he told reporters here after handing out bubur lambuk to policemen on duty on Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman on Wednesday (March 20).
He said police will carry out Ops Selamat 22 in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri from April 8 to 13.
"The operation which will be launched on April 5 is aimed at ensuring smooth traffic for people returning to their hometowns.
"We will also work with the crime prevention and community safety department to ensure that houses and premises are monitored throughout the holidays," he said.
On the mat rempit issue, Comm Mohd Azman said enforcement efforts will be continuous.
"We have identified several locations frequented by mat rempit such as the DUKE Highway.
"We advise youths to always abide by the traffic regulations," adding that they will take necessary measures against youths found to violate traffic rules.
