KUCHING: Sarawak police will conduct Ops Selamat from Thursday (March 19) until next Tuesday (March 24) in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
State police commissioner Comm Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said about 750 officers and personnel will be involved in the statewide operation to raise safety awareness and reduce accidents during the festive season.
"Ops Selamat 26 will focus on federal, state and municipal roads, especially in accident-prone and congested areas," he said in a statement on Tuesday (March 17).
Comm Mohamad Zainal said 332 road accidents were recorded during Hari Raya last year, a decrease of 22 cases compared to 354 in 2024.
He said the number of fatal accidents also declined from seven in 2024 to five last year.
"Road users are advised to comply with traffic laws and follow instructions from enforcement personnel during the operation," he said.
In addition, he advised those travelling during the festive period to inform the police of their absence through the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) app.
Travellers can also call the nearest police station or fill in the "balik kampung" form on the Royal Malaysia Police website.
