TO prevent food wastage during Ramadan, a restaurant in Nilai, Negri Sembilan has introduced a RM20 fine against errant customers who waste food at the buffet.
According to reports by Sinar Harian, the penalty was introduced by the restaurant after its 42-year-old head chef Nor Arazman Aljunid noticed some customers taking too much food and not finishing it.
Nor Arazman said the approach was meant to educate customers on the need to prevent food wastage.
“Some customers tend to take food in large quantities.
“It’s better to take only what we intend to eat first and after it is finished, then take more food,” Nor Arazman said.
Nor Arazman said that customers, when making reservations for the buffet, would be told about the RM20 fine. The new directive is also displayed in a warning notice at the restaurant.
According to Nor Arazman, the RM20 fine is imposed on each 100 grams of unconsumed food per customer.
“So far, there have been no penalties imposed yet. We also serve food according to the number of customers. When the food is about to run out, then we will cook more. We don’t want to waste food.
“But, customers should not worry because our food is always enough and they can eat during their designated time,” added Norazman, who has been a chef for 25 years.

According to Sinar Harian, the woman in her 30s, known as Azie, said she bought five murtabaks from a stall in Guchil the previous day.
“As I was chewing on my murtabak, it felt weird because it was crispy. I was really shocked when I found a cockroach inside.
“I vomited right away and lost my appetite upon the thought of having a cockroach in my mouth. It was very disgusting,” she was quoted as saying.
Azie said she did not have the chance to take any pictures of her meal because she was vomiting.
Azie, a mother of one, said she has no plans to lodge a complaint or inform the stall owner.
