Parents held for feeding baby drug-laced milk

PETALING JAYA: A baby nearly died after his mother accidentally fed him drug-laced milk. After drinking the milk, the boy started behaving oddly, including crying uncontrollably.

He was sent to the Kajang Hospital.

It was believed that the 34-year-old mother had accidentally mixed some liquid syabu into the milk before feeding her baby on Feb 19.The drugs belonged to her husband, 40.

The mother had admitted to the mistake.

Both the woman and her husband were arrested at their home in Taman Medan here on Feb 20.

When contacted yesterday, Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulnizam Jaa’far @ Ismail said the baby had been discharged from the hospital after making a recovery.“The baby is now under the care of his maternal grandmother,” he said, adding the Welfare Department has not stepped in yet. When asked about the arrested parents, ACP Shahrulnizam said both of them tested positive for drugs.

He said, however, that no drugs were found during their arrests.

ACP Shahrulnizam said the suspects have been remanded for seven days to assist in police investigations under Section 31 (1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for ill-treatment, neglect, abandonment or exposure of children.
