Two more held over motorist's death in Kajang

PETALING JAYA: Two more men have been arrested in connection with the death of a 42-year-old man, who was allegedly beaten up following an accident in Taman Pelangi Semenyih 2 in Kajang.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the men were detained in Kajang on Thursday (Feb 22), bringing the total arrests in the case to seven.

"The suspects, aged 40 and 23, were held to assist with the investigation.

"We are still looking into the motive," he told a press conference here on Friday (Feb 23).

The post-mortem did not reveal clear injuries that could pinpoint the cause of death, he said.

"It will require further analysis by the pathologists, with the help of the Chemistry Department.

"However, the post-mortem revealed that the victim (tested positive for) ganja and methamphetamine.

"Our checks also revealed that the victim had 10 drug-related offences on his record," he said.

Initial investigation showed that the victim was involved in an accident before he was allegedly assaulted, Comm Hussein said.

"We are still investigating.

"We are also aware of several videos of the incident that went viral and we urge the public not to speculate or make up stories that could disrupt the investigation and cause public distress.

"Let us investigate based on the facts," he said.

It was previously reported that five men were detained for allegedly beating up a man following an accident in Taman Pelangi Semenyih 2 at about 9.20pm on Tuesday (Feb 20).

It is learnt that the victim initially sped away from an accident before a group of men caught up with him.

"(The victim) was later found lying on the road and there were marks on his wrists that (indicate) he was tied up. Medical personnel at the scene confirmed that the driver had died," Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 21).

Several witnesses told police that they saw the driver being dragged from his car by a group of men before being beaten up, he added.

"He was then tied up in the middle of the road.

"Forensic personnel collected various blood samples and fingerprints at the scene as well as a rope to assist in the investigation," he said,

ACP Mohd Zaid said investigations then led police to arrest five men aged between 22 and 52 in Semenyih and Beranang at about 2.05am on Wednesday.

"The suspects have been remanded until Feb 25.

"The post-mortem will be conducted at Hospital Serdang," he added.

He urged anyone with information to contact CID investigating officer ASP Redzuan Mat Salleh at 013-7854100 or Traffic Investigating officer Insp. Ammar Tahir at 018-2194013.
