Five nabbed for assaulting motorist who was later found dead

KAJANG: Five men have been arrested for allegedly beating up a motorist after an accident in Taman Pelangi Semenyih 2 here, resulting in the man's death.

It is learnt that the 42-year-old victim initially drove away from the scene of an accident and the group of men caught up with him.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan said the incident occurred at 9.20pm on Tuesday (Feb 20).

"Initial investigations found that the driver of the car rammed into the gates of a house in a residential area.

"He was later found lying on the road (with) marks on his wrists (indicating) that he had been tied up.

"Medical personnel at the scene confirmed he was dead," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 21).

Several witnesses told police that they saw the driver being dragged from his car by a group of men before being beaten up, he said.

"He was then tied up in the middle of the road.

"Forensic personnel collected various blood samples and fingerprints at the scene as well as a rope," ACP Mohd Zaid said.

He added that police subsequently arrested five men aged between 22 and 52 in Semenyih and Beranang on Wednesday morning.

"A post-mortem will be conducted at Hospital Serdang.

"The suspects have been remanded until Feb 25," he said.

While it is believed that the victim was beaten up because of the collision earlier, ACP Mohd Zaid said the motive for the attack was still being probed.

He urged anyone with information to contact CID investigating officer Asst Supt Redzuan Mat Salleh at 013-7854100 or Traffic investigating officer Insp Ammar Tahir at 018-2194013.
