Nur Sajat to join Miss Mardi Gras Queen 2024 competition wearing traditional costume

KUALA LUMPUR: Local transgender social media personality Nur Sajat is set to join the Miss Mardi Gras Queen 2024 competition.

Announcing her participation on social media, the 39-year-old revealed a glimpse of her custom-made national outfit inspired by the Langkasuka Malay Kingdom of Kedah.

“My national costume,” she said in the post.

In another post, Sajat offered a behind-the-scenes peek at a photo shoot for the upcoming event.

The Miss Mardi Gras Queen competition is an annual transgender beauty pageant.

The event's grand finale is scheduled for Saturday, Feb 24, with the winner gracing the following week's Sydney Mardi Gras parade, Hype reported.

Nur Sajat gained popularity on social media but faced challenges after publicly identifying as female in 2017.

In October 2021, seeking refuge from persecution in Malaysia, she sought asylum in Australia and was granted citizenship.
