Civil servant remanded over contracts issued to wife's company


SEREMBAN: A 49-year-old civil servant has been remanded for seven days for allegedly awarding contracts totalling some RM540,000 to four companies belonging to his wife.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission prosecuting officer Zainab Yahya made the remand application before magistrate Syed Farid Syed Ali here.

The suspect is being probed for abusing his position by awarding contracts to his wife's companies to provide supplies and services to his department.

It is learnt that the man was detained just before midnight on Monday (Feb 19) at the MACC office here.

The case is being probed under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.

State MACC chief Awgkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awg Ismail had confirmed the matter when contacted on Monday.
