‘Police car arsonist’ nabbed

PETALING JAYA: A delivery rider was arrested barely 10 hours after he allegedly set an auxiliary police car on fire.

His motive? To get high ratings on his TikTok account, police said.

In the incident that occurred at the Mutiara Damansara MRT station early yesterday, the individual is said to have also vandalised a bus stop.

The brazen suspect posted a five-second video of the burning police car on TikTok while posing with a peace sign with his fingers.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said police received a report on the incident at around 1.52am yesterday.

“A police team arrested the 26-year-old suspect at around noon at his home in Flora Damansara.

“The suspect is believed to have used a petrol bomb in the incident,” he said when contacted yesterday.

He said police had seized several items believed to have been used by the suspect in the incident.

“Initial investigations revealed the suspect had also vandalised a bus stop wall.

“We have opened investigations under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire,” he said.

The suspect had also tested positive for morphine.

Earlier, a video posted on TikTok of the burning car had went viral.

The five-second video had the caption “puas hati bakar kereta polis” (satisfied after burning a police car) and showed a man, clad in a black T-shirt and helmet, posing with a peace sign.

ACP Mohd Fakhrudin warned the public against breaking the law or face stern action.

“We urge the public to refrain from speculating on the case, which could lead to public anxiety,” he added.

Those with information on the incident should contact the Selangor police hotline at 03-2052 9999 or go to the nearest police station.
