Navy officer remanded in procurement cartel probe


JOHOR BARU: A navy officer and a company owner have been remanded for five days to assist in the ongoing investigation of a procurement cartel case involving construction work worth more than RM9mil at a Royal Malaysian Navy camp in Johor.

Senior assistant registrar Nurkhalida Farhana Abu Bakar issued the remand order against the two suspects, aged 42 and 55, at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The two suspects were brought to the Johor Baru Court Complex building at 9am handcuffed and wearing orange lock-up T-shirts.

On Tuesday, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) detained the two men for questioning over the recent procurement cartel case.

According to a source, the two men were arrested at the Johor Baru MACC office.

MACC had earlier arrested three men, aged 28 to 47, believed to be behind the procurement cartel involving construction work worth more than RM9mil at the Navy camp in the state.

The three men were arrested by the Johor MACC at 6pm on Jan 18 in the investigation into the cartel involving 13 supplier companies that managed construction work at the camp.
